About Us / Our Story

A Unique Experience Dating Back to 1908

At Schweich Bar & Hotel, our family owned and operated business has a vibrant history dating all the way back to 1908. Originally established as the Central Hotel & Mercantile store in Kenyon, MN, the building has withstood over 100 years of change. Initially the upper-level operated as a hotel, while the street level space served the needs of numerous stores, at one time even operating as a Penney's.

After being abandoned for years, the building that stood on Kenyon's main street was rundown and in poor condition; which only sparked more inspiration into the current owners. The Schweich family, with guidance from their father, a retired builder / developer of both residential and commercial properties, had the experience, vision and desire to bring the building back to its former glory. The community of Kenyon was so welcoming and overwhelmingly supportive to us we thought it would be a wonderful place to welcome all our customers from all over Minnesota and beyond!

Following the initial purchase, the Schweich family spent a year and a half restoring the building, taking every detail into account. The restoration involved gutting the entire structure, converting the dirt crawlspace into a full basement, adding a luxury patio addition, and endless hours of work, much of which was completed by family members.

Today the building stands fully renovated with an understated exterior and an awe-inspiring interior. The newly remodeled structure is complete with cherry and oak wood walls, miles of ceramic tile flooring, and intricately restored brick work and original tin ceiling plates not commonly found in today's world.

"When people walk in they take a few minutes just to look around.*" The walls are adorned with South African – zebra, kudu, and monkey - and native wildlife mounts, the ceiling patterned with gold-colored plating, and the air filled with the delicious aromas of made-from-scratch food.

The Schweich Bar & Hotel hosted its officially opening in the summer of 2013. The establishment is family owned and operated.

"We want to spend time with our customers; please and thank you will be on the lips of management and wait staff.*"

From abandoned and rundown, to booming and beautiful, Schweich Bar & Hotel has quickly become a Keynon hotspot and a destination worth traveling to.
